It’s unnerving how many posters and signs, pamphlets and flyers are scattered across the country on light poles, walls, handed out to you in the traffic.

I for one am comfortable with the concept that a woman can decide If she wants to have a baby or not, however I can’t believe the government would so carelessly allow for people to advertise so freely, especially when 12 year olds are allowed to use these services freely and to their own discretion here in South Africa.

Prices range from R200 rand to the early thousands, I can’t help but wonder how the conditions are in the really cheap places, how safe these places are. Is there some sort of bar or standard set by the Health department to ensure that the practices are safe.

With so many people promising safe abortions to a generation that is shrouded by teengae pregnancy and HIV, I wonder how much this helps lessen carelessness and promote Safe sex.

Commercialising such a practice is one step towards desensitising people. Nobody thikns of it as the destruction of a human being

I agree. I was actually also thinking about the other day, while stuck in traffic. It’s really a disgrace. Also ironic how some of these clinics are advertised on dustbins...

Rather than selling safety measures, we are selling death at a lower cost. Ironic and disgusting situation for a society as a whole to be in. Imagine a 12 year old one free to use such services, where are we in the day of technological and social advancement. Isn’t it enough to put us all to shame!

I also do not have a problem with women having a choice however, just like any other service, it has to be advertised so that women can make a decision on who will perform the abortion. I also believe that everyone is responsible for themselves when it comes to safe sex. The government does take a part in promoting safe sex. For example, anyone at anytime can submit a request for a grant that will be used to pass out free condoms, and free STD/HIV testing. In most cities the government has free clinics setup to show films that promote safe sex,and to show how the body reacts to various STD’s and HIV along with free and confidential testing. Futhermore, I believe the reality of the matter is more important than people’s sensitivity to the subject we do not live in a sheltered world. A woman being forced to believe that she is doing something wrong even though she has a right to do it could possibly cause her to commit suicide or have an underground, unprofessional procedure done which could kill her. If the government says its legal then the pressure is off and she can do what she has to and move on with her life without undue stress and mental anquish. I believe that everyone knows that it is destroying another human being but what does that have to do with the reasons women have abortions, i.e. rape, incest, drug addiction, being too young and alone and financial stain; two things that could
lead to homelessness. All that could lead to suicide or severe mental illness. Also those reasons are worst than the death of an unborn child. A child born to a drug addicted mother will suffer severely and most likely die. A child who is biologically fathered by his own grandfather or another relative, etc. will, at the least, come out severely retarded and may also be physically deformed and then later have to learn the truth about his ”father”.

its happen when people are not well educated or they dont knows about birth controll techniques.the posters and advt you’ll find everywhere, even on local train, buses, walls of school.... everywhere.recently there was an article and even a debate on a reputed news channel claiming 65% girls under 16 yr of age in delhi’s school are sexually active.parents must have a cautious note and must spent some time at their own house to keep vigil.
